FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is a home inspection?
A home inspection is a service that evaluates the visible and accessible systems and components of a home and determines the present condition of the home’s major systems.  It is intended to identify components that are significantly deficient, unsafe or near the end of their life.

What are your inspectors’ qualifications?
All our inspectors undergo rigorous field training; some are graduate engineers, some are professional engineers, and most are Certified Home Inspectors.

How many inspectors will be inspecting my home?
There will be 2-person inspector teams inspecting each home.

What is involved in the inspection process?
When the inspectors arrive, they will begin examining the home inside and out and will be utilizing a tablet to record their findings on a government-provided checklist. Once they have completed the inspection, a report of findings will be uploaded into a database and compiled for submission to the Military Housing Office (MHO).

What does the inspector look for?
The inspector will look for problems with the home’s heating and cooling system, structure, roof, plumbing, electrical system, windows and doors, foundation and more.

Should/Can I attend the inspection?
Although not required to escort the inspectors, someone over the age of 18 needs to be present in the home if minors are present during the inspection.  Prior arrangements need to be made with the MHO point of contact if no one can be present in the home during the inspection.
